Language Lab

Lab Overview

The language lab is set up to chiefly accommodate the supersites that are required by the modern languages classes currently offered at SRJC: French, German, Italian, and Spanish. These supersites generally require a passcode that each student receives upon purchasing the materials. Some instructors also create oral and listening assignments that are uploaded and available only in the language lab. The language lab is ideal for students who need to send voice recordings to their instructors; who need a high-speed connection to watch supersite videos as well as to complete other activities; and who need assistance registering for, navigating, and comprehending their supersites. Students can also supplement their language learning experience with Eurotalk, a software program that provides interactive exercises for basic, practical knowledge in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, or Spanish.

The computers in the language lab are principally for use related to classes offered by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages & ASL. It is first come, first served, and students log in and out with their SID. Periodically some classes utilize the lab as a whole, limiting computer availability during these times; notices are posted on the door. Students not enrolled in a departmental language course may only use the language lab and its language-related software on a space-available basis, and should duly note that due to the nature of the language lab, it is intended for language-related study only.
